The Associated Press – ATLANTA (AP) AUSTIN, Texas (AP: AP) The Atlanta Hawks will welcome Dwight Howard to town to kick off the 2017-18 season on Tuesday night against the Atlanta Hawks.
Howard, who has been in Dallas for nearly two weeks after the Dallas Mavericks traded him to the Lakers, will be wearing a Dallas Mavericks uniform in his debut.
“I’m excited to get back into this uniform and play with the guys,” Howard said in a release.
“We’ve got a great group of guys, so we’re looking forward to getting out there and trying to put on a show.”
Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer says the team has been preparing for the possibility that Howard will return for a few months.
Budenhopper says the main focus will be making sure Howard is fully recovered.
The Hawks also will host the Los Angeles Lakers in an exhibition game on Tuesday.
“Obviously, I think Dwight would be an incredible fit here,” Budenhorst said.
“He’s an important piece for us as a player and a coach.
Howard signed a six-year, $125 million contract extension with the Lakers in July. “
